The One-Page Practice That’s Quietly Changing My Life

You know those moments when you realize you’ve been doing a lot, but you’re not sure if any of it is actually moving you forward?

Yeah… me too.

A few months ago, I stumbled onto something that’s made a surprisingly big difference—not in a flashy, productivity-hack kind of way, but in a grounded, clarifying, “ohhh, this is what matters” kind of way.

It’s a simple practice from Dr. Benjamin Hardy. Just one page. Done monthly and quarterly. But somehow it helps me feel more me, more focused, and more hopeful about where I’m going.

Let me walk you through it—because I think it might just help you too.

🌿 What It Is

Dr. Hardy’s One-Page Monthly (and Quarterly) Report is kind of like sitting down to have an honest heart-to-heart with yourself. No fluff. No guilt. Just clarity.

Each time you do it, you reflect on six key areas:

  1. Where you are right now

Mentally, emotionally, spiritually, physically, financially—just a pulse check. No judgment.

  2. Your recent wins

Even the small ones count. (Got out of bed on a hard day? That’s a win.)

  3. Lessons you’ve learned

From mistakes, surprises, hard conversations, unexpected gifts.

  4. Where you want to be next

Not just what you do, but who you want to become. This part is magic.

  5. Measurable goals for the next period

What would “forward” look like in the next month or quarter?

  6. Your personal commitments

Not a to-do list. More like: “I commit to resting well.” Or, “I commit to showing up fully.”

It’s quick, but deep. Just one page—enough to see yourself more clearly.

I use a different format for the monthly than the quarterly, but they both help me to maintain clarity by regularly taking a few minutes to reflect on the recent past, see where I am currently, and look ahead to where and who I desire to be.

And don’t worry, if it feels like this might be some belabored process that’s going to take an hour or more to do. Once I started doing it, I was surprised at how quickly it goes. That’s the idea, according to Dr. Hardy.

If you’re not a person who already has a progress focused mindset, it might take a minute the first time you do it. But in the months and quarters after that it’ll be a breeze.

✨ Why It Matters

This isn’t just another journal prompt or productivity hack. It’s a practice in identity-based living.

Dr. Hardy talks a lot about building your life around your future self—not just reacting to your circumstances, but intentionally becoming who you’re meant to be.

The one-page report does exactly that. It connects the dots between your past, present, and future. It gives your days meaning and momentum. And it reminds you that growth doesn’t always look like giant leaps—it often looks like small, steady choices made with purpose.

Even when we feel like we may have taken a step backward, it helps keep that in perspective and see it in relation to the bigger picture and the progress we’ve made – or places where we may want to make adjustments in practices, attitudes, or expectations.

☕ Why I’m Sharing It With You

Because we all need something simple and meaningful to come back to—especially when life feels noisy, or we start doubting our direction.

This practice has helped me:

  • Celebrate progress I used to overlook

  • Learn from patterns instead of repeating them

  • Make decisions with more peace and less pressure

  • Stay grounded in my values instead of chasing every shiny opportunity

And honestly? It just feels good to sit with myself each month and say:“Okay… where are we, and where are we going next?”

If you’re curious to try it, I’ve put together a couple of simple templates – one for monthly, one for quarterly – based on Dr. Hardy’s model—something you can print, fill out, or tuck in your planner.

👇 Comment “One-Page” below, and I’ll be happy to send them your way.

Here’s to more intentional living—one honest page at a time.
