When God Asks, "Do You Trust Me?"

Have you ever felt God nudging you toward something that felt way beyond your comfort zone?
It can be scary, confusing—even a little bit crazy.
But here’s the truth: He sees what we can’t see. And He’s always trustworthy.
💡 Wisdom from the Well
This idea of trusting God came up in a recent conversation with Lois Zehr and Lisa Roye-Bowers—two incredible women of faith I’ll be partnering with for a brand-new podcast launching in October:
🎙️ Wisdom from the Well: Faith-Filled Conversations to Inspire and Connect.
We were sharing about the ways we personally draw on God’s wisdom in daily life. Lois told us about one of her practices: imagining God as her CEO.
She pictures herself sitting at a long boardroom table, facing Him across the room. Papers are spread out, questions are waiting to be answered, and decisions need to be made. She turns to Him, listens, and counsels with Him on which direction to go.
I love that image because it makes trusting God feel both practical and personal. It’s not about waiting for a thunderbolt revelation—it’s about intentionally creating space to ask, listen, and lean into His wisdom for the “business” of life.
💡 My “Aladdin” Moment
Years ago, I was watching Disney’s Aladdin when a scene hit me harder than I expected.
Aladdin and Jasmine are racing through the streets of Agrabah, chased by the palace guards. They duck into an upper room, only to realize they’re trapped. The only possible way out? A high, open window.
Do you remember the scene?
Aladdin, unfazed, climbs onto the sill, reaches back to Jasmine, and says: “Do you trust me?”
It’s such a simple line, but it hit so hard it felt like my world stopped for a minute.
Aladdin had made this jump before. He knew the clotheslines strung between buildings would get them safely to the ground. But Jasmine? She had no such experience. To her, the leap looked terrifying, even impossible.
And as I watched, I felt to my core: This is what God does with me all the time.
He sees what I can’t see. He knows what I don’t know. He has skills, abilities, and vision far beyond mine. And then He stretches out His hand and asks, “Do you trust Me?”
💡 What Trust Really Means

For me, that was a turning point in how I think about trust.
Trusting God doesn’t mean the leap suddenly feels easy. It doesn’t mean the fear disappears. It means saying yes anyway—because His perspective is higher, His wisdom is deeper, and His strength is limitless.
It also means realizing that when He asks me to jump, He isn’t setting me up for failure. His heart is never to frighten me or push me past breaking. His desire is to grow me—stretching me in ways I could never imagine if I stayed “safe” in the room.
💡 Boldly Approaching the Throne
This connects beautifully with the verse in Hebrews 4:16:
"Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need."
When I used to read that, the word boldly always made me nervous. Bold sounded like puffing up my chest, striding into God’s throne room, and demanding answers.
But the more I’ve lived with it, the more I’ve realized: my boldness isn’t about me at all.
It’s not about confidence in my own strength, courage, or ability to “hold it all together.” It’s about confidence in Him.
I can be bold in approaching His throne because He has already welcomed me there. I can be bold because His mercy is endless and His love is unshakable.
That’s the kind of boldness that feels less like arrogance and more like relief. Less like bravado, more like childlike trust.
💡 The Invitation
So here’s the invitation: the next time God stretches out His hand and whispers, “Do you trust Me?”—pause before you shrink back.
Remember that He has already seen the path ahead. He’s already mapped the way down. And He isn’t asking you to leap blindly; He’s asking you to take His hand and follow Him into something greater than you can currently see.
Yes, it may feel like jumping out of a high window onto a swaying clothesline. But if He’s the one leading, you can know without question—you will land exactly where you need to be.
✨ Final Thought
Trusting God doesn’t mean we never feel afraid.
It means we let our trust in His goodness outweigh our fear of the unknown.
He’s the CEO who guides the strategy.
He’s the hand reaching out from the window.
He’s the key to our confidence.
All we have to do is take His hand.
