What Are You Looking At?

I have a friend who often said something that made me wince just a little:“Just my luck,” she’d sigh when her day went sideways or she got a stain on her shirt or her printer decided not to talk to her computer.
But here’s the thing: I knew this friend well. And I also knew she’d recently received an unexpected financial blessing, had some wonderful experiences with her daughter, and was surrounded by people who loved her.
Major blessings. Real, undeniable good.
But she didn’t claim that as her “luck.” She rarely even mentioned it.
One day, when she said it again, I gently pushed back.“What do you mean, ‘just your luck’? Let’s talk about your luck,” I said, and I listed a few of the wonderful things I knew had happened in her world.
She paused. Blinked. Then laughed. “Well… when you put it that way…”

🌱 Here’s the truth: We see what we look for.
We claim what we look for.
Jesus said, “Seek, and you will find.” (Matthew 7:7)
It doesn’t just apply to spiritual answers.
It applies to everyday life.
If you look for injustice, inconvenience, or insult…You’ll find it.
If you look for beauty, blessing, or growth…You’ll find that, too.
It reminds me of a lyric from the song Runaround by Blues Traveler:“As we seek, so shall we find.”(Yes, even the 90s had some solid theology in there!)
Our attention is powerful.
What we dwell on, we magnify.
This isn’t about toxic positivity. It’s not about denying hard things.
It’s about not denying the good things.
It’s about noticing the hand of God in the middle of the mess.
It’s about being the person who points out that light is still shining—sometimes right next to the spilled coffee.
So, here’s my invitation today: Take note of what you’re looking for.
Because chances are…You’re finding it.
Let’s look for the good. 🌤️
💬 What about you?
Have you ever caught yourself looking for the negative and missing the blessing?
Or had a shift in perspective that helped you see more clearly?
