We Were Never Meant to Sing Alone (Except Maybe in the Shower)

As a singer, I’ve performed solo—and loved it. You get to choose the song, set the tempo, control the interpretation. You rehearse when it works for you. When the performance lands, all the applause is yours.

But you also carry every shaky note and forgotten lyric. There’s no one to cover for you or share the joy. It’s you, exposed.

Then there’s group performance.

Harder to coordinate schedules. You don’t always get to pick the music or call the shots. Your voice is just one part of a whole.

And yet?

There’s nothing like it.

When a group blends just right—timing, breath, intention—it becomes something transcendent. You hear the sound you’re part of but couldn’t possibly create alone.

That’s the power of oneness.

It reflects something deeper about how we were designed.

Our culture often glorifies going it alone—being the star, the “self-made” success. We admire independence and control.

But that mindset can be deceiving.

We’re not actually meant to do life solo. We never really accomplish anything completely alone. Behind every great achievement is a web of support: mentors, friends, encouragers, people in the background showing up in unseen ways.

As Brené Brown says, we’re “hard-wired for connection.”

And connection doesn’t diminish us—it multiplies what’s possible.

Oneness isn’t about losing your individuality. It’s like harmony: the altos don’t become sopranos, and the tenors don’t lose their voice. Every voice keeps its own quality—but together, they form something exponentially more powerful.

There’s risk, of course. Blending means surrendering some control. Making space for others. Trusting the process.

But the joy?

The depth?

The impact?

It’s unmatched.

So today, remember:

You don’t have to sing alone.

You weren’t created to.

Whether in friendship, faith, family, or work, let yourself blend with others. Lean into the vulnerability of being part of something bigger. Offer your voice—and receive the voices around you.

Because the most beautiful songs aren’t solos.

They’re the ones sung in harmony.

If you're craving more real connection and less performance... you’re not alone. I’ve recently joined voices with two wise and wonderful women—Lisa Roye Bowers and Lois Zehr—for some faith-centered conversations full of truth, laughter, and real talk.

We’ll be sharing some of those soon—and trust me, you won’t want to miss it. Because when women of faith come together in honesty and love? That’s a harmony worth hearing. 💬✨

Stay tuned!
