Time Heals All Wounds… But Often It Needs Help

We’ve all heard the phrase: “Time heals all wounds.”

And there’s truth to it.
Time can soften the sting of loss.
It can give us the distance we need to breathe again.
But let’s be honest—time alone doesn’t guarantee healing.
It’s not a magic wand.
Some wounds don’t fade just because the calendar flipped.
When Time Isn’t Enough
If time were all it took…
We wouldn’t still feel tender when we hear that one song.
Or get a lump in our throat every year on that same date.
Or flinch at memories we thought we’d buried.
Some pain lingers—quiet, but persistent.
A childhood wound that was never acknowledged.
A betrayal that shredded trust.
A grief tucked away, not expressed.
Time may pass, but it doesn’t always process what happened.
Sometimes it just covers pain instead of healing it.
It’s like sweeping broken glass into a corner—out of sight, but still dangerous.
Healing Needs More Than Time
Healing often needs:
Reflection – slowing down to listen to the pain
Support – wise voices and safe spaces
Compassion – especially toward ourselves
Help – therapy, coaching, prayer, processing
And above all, healing needs Jesus—
the One who doesn’t just give time… He redeems it.
Jesus: The Great Healer
Jesus never said, “Just give it time.”He didn’t avoid people’s pain—He stepped into it.
He touched the leper.
He wept at the tomb.
He healed bodies, minds, hearts, and relationships.
“He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.”— Psalm 147:3
“Come to me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”— Matthew 11:28
Jesus doesn’t rush us.
He meets us where we are—but He doesn’t leave us there.
So yes…
Time can be part of healing.
But healing is often active, not passive.
It’s something we participate in—with honesty, courage, and grace.
If you’re carrying something that time hasn’t healed…
You’re not broken.
You’re human.
And you’re not alone.
